On this site you will find details of the Level 2 and Level 3 Technical Certificates in Papermaking, as well as pre-prepared and bespoke courses.

In addition there is a section for the latest news, a photo gallery of students/classes, the usual industry related links and some revision tests for my students that you may wish to try yourself

Recent additions to the site are QUICKFACTS and QUICKTESTS. Quicktests can be just for fun or as an informal Training Needs Analysis, (TNA).

If you are looking for Management Training, Coaching, or Health & Safety, then you may wish to try Tim Watts Associates

For manual handling training, accident and incident investigation, risk assessments and audits then please try Jim Reeves Safety and Training Consultency Ltd.

The Machineman Development Programme offers machine operators, newly appointed engineers and technical staff alike the opportunity to learn about applied papermaking in a highly conducive learning environment. The four one-week modules, spaced at monthly intervals, are hosted by local mills. In addition, each week contains a one-day element devoted to an essential non-technical subject such as "structured problem solving", "contributing to effective team working" etc.
One mill is already benefiting from the closer collaboration of Machinemen and Engineers as they begin to remove the causes of some of the longstandng efficiency issues.

About the Author

After obtaining my PhD in 1982 from the Department of Paper Science in Manchester I have been working within the industry. or as a supplier, or as a trainer. The benfits of this broad range of experiences include;

  • An understanding of the way a mill operates, and how it works with customers and suppliers
  • An understanding of how suppliers operate, and how they work with their customers
  • An awareness of the need for high quality basic understanding of materials and processes, which wil improve both communications and problem solving abilities
